Sharon Chynoweth

Sharon ChynowethSharon was born in Calgary and studied piano as a young girl with both Joyce Gibson and Betty Ferguson, two well-known and highly respected Calgary piano teachers.

She graduated in 1979 from the University of Calgary with a Bachelor of Music degree in Early Childhood Education. She taught Suzuki Piano method in her home studio for thirteen years while raising her two children.

In 1995, she retired from teaching in order to pursue other work interests when her family moved to Jasper, AB.

Over the years she has found herself accompanying a high school choir, the “Summit Singers” (Jasper’s community choir), playing for community Carol Festivals, Remembrance Day services, church services, funerals and weddings.

Sharon moved to Yellowknife in September, 2005 and two weeks later was invited to join the Yellowknife Choral Society. The Choral Society’s innovative and creative concert themes have offered her new challenges and allowed her to grow in new and interesting ways. She says that she truly appreciates the friendship and musical gifts of the Society members and directors and that it is wonderful to have been adopted into the Choral Society family. In the Fall of 2007 she was thrilled to be asked to be the accompanist working with the newly formed Fireweed Children’s Chorus.
